Yesterday, I took a day trip to Venice with 53 other students from around Florence with Florence For Fun. We took a water taxi to San Marco and visited a glass blower where we watched the glass blower create a vase. I then had lunch with another student traveling alone before we went on a gondola ride through the canals. Unfortunately in the middle of our ride we were hit with heavy rain and had to stop under a bridge for at least ten minutes if not more. None the less, we kept on with our day and went to the shopping district where we browsed stands of masks, bracelets, and typical souvenir items. I love the charm of Venice and I definitely recommend a visit. I hope to someday visit for a longer period of time and to get to know it like the back of my hand. I fell in love with the way the city works in its little districts based on what happens there. We visited the exterior of the Opera House and witnessed, from across the canal so as to see the front, the Ca' D'Oro (The "House of Gold" of which Napoleon stripped the gold facade to create statues), the Peggy Guggenheim Museum, the Bridge of Sighs, Dog Palace, and Basilica Di San Marco.we crossed the Ponte Rialto after lunch and spent a half an hour browsing the market below.
