To get to Croatia we had an eleven and a half hour bus ride where we were cramped in and sleeping was challenging. We arrived at 7:30 Friday morning and went to eat breakfast. We then got to our apartments and had an hour break before an hour and a half walking tour of Split. In the afternoon, we went white water rafting on the Cetina River. After the strongest area of the river, we pulled over and jumped off a cliff! It was exhilarating and only our guide Cathy did not jump. She said that that was the first time in the last three weeks that everyone has jumped!
Saturday we went on a boat cruise around the Dalmatian Islands. We stopped at two ports and stopped two times to swim in the Adriatic Sea. The first time we stopped I jumped into the water from the back deck of the boat. We swam around for a bit and got back on. From there, we decided to jump from the second level of the boat into the water. Everyone that I jumped with that time hit the water painfully, but I didn't hit very hard, when getting back onto the boat, however, I slipped in a puddle of water on the back platform and hit my knee on the boat. We stopped for lunch on the second island and had chicken, bread, french fries, and veggies that had been cooked over a fire made of sticks and pinecones in outdoor stove that they had. After lunch we spent an hour on the pebble beach, where I ended up falling asleep, before we headed out to the second swimming spot and then back to port. When we got back, we headed back to Split where we walked around for a bit, grabbing a sandwich and fries on the way.
Sunday, we visited the Croatian National Park, Krke, and walked around the trails of the park stopping to photograph the many beautiful waterfalls along the way. The storm on Friday had re - flooded the park which had been receding since the big storms two weeks ago, so we were unable to swim in the park. We ate an early lunch at the park before hitting the trails so that once we finished the trail we would all be set to leave to head back to Florence. We left at 12:45 and got back at 11pm. We watched movies all day in the bus. On the way to the park we watched "I Love You, Man". After the park we watched "Elf," "We're the Millers," "rocknrolla," "Due Date," and "SuperTroopers."
This weekend in Croatia was beautiful and the inspiring break from the stone city of Florence that I needed. It was so wonderful to spend a weekend in nature while meeting other Florence study abroad students. Croatia is a definite on my list of places to visit again in the future. Put it on your bucket lists ladies and gents, you won't regret it!
