We went to Rome last weekend as a part of our reading cities class. We practically speed walked the city visiting seven Museums in three days as well as the Spanish Steps and Sunken Ship Fountain as well as the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, and Piazza de Campo.
Our itinerary:
Friday, we had to be at the train station by 7:30 to make it to our train to Rome. Once there, we dropped off our luggage at the hotel before heading to the Ara Pacis Museum passing through Piazza Navona on the way. After the Ara Pacis Museum we grabbed a bite to eat and headed to the Vatican Museum, St. Petersburg Square and Basilica, passing Castell De Angelo on the way. (this is the final destination in Dan Brown's "The Da Vinci Code.")
Saturday, we visited the Roman Forum and Colosseum with our tour guide Erika, grabbing lunch in between at a vine covered outdoor restaurant. After the Colosseum we visited Museo Capitolini which is next to where the Senate house is and we visited the museum which had a Michelangelo exhibit and a beautiful view of the city from the terrace. At night, we went to the Ducati Café which was severely disappointing in both food and service. The majority of the menu was crossed out in black or blue pen and the waitress was rude to us and put Kris' burger on another table and left it there until he went to get it.
Sunday, we left the city center of Rome and took a tram to the neighborhood where the MAXXI Museum and Renzo Piano's Auditorium De la Musica a reside before heading back to the city center stopping at the Spanish steps, Sunken Ship Fountain, Trevi Fountain, and the Monument of the Unknown Soldiers. After, we grabbed our bags from the hotel got on a packed bus to get the metro and to our train. On the bus, we were packed like sardines and Corrinne's wallet was stolen.
Compared to Florence, Rome is packed everywhere and there is a Roman nightlife unlike in Florence where the Florentine people do not go out to bars and walk roudily through the streets.
